Travel tips: getting to and from the airport

Some of us have family who don’t mind being woken up at odd hours to run over to the airport.  The rest of us have to figure out the cheapest way to get there.  Here are some of the options:

Train

Quick, efficient, and some might say reasonably priced.  Its main drawback? The trains only run from 5am until midnight.   They also stop at 14:30 on Friday and start again Saturday night at 21:00.  The train stop is in the airport at Terminal 3.  For prices and schedules, click here (English).

Bus

Egged buses that go to Tzomet El Al: 244, 249, 423, 930, 943, 947, 950.

Egged bus #5 goes from Tzomet El Al to Terminal 3.  Ask for Terminal 3 and pay a lower price.

Kavim buses that go to Terminal 3 in the airport: #13 from Shoham and #239 from Ramle.

Taxi

Prices have been standardized by the Ministry of Transportation.  The price depends on several factors including the time of day, the number of people, and the number of suitcases.  To calculate the cost of a taxi and see a detailed explanation of the fares, click here.

The smart consumer should also know that despite the price guides for taxis to/from the airport, it is always the rider’s prerogative to choose the meter which might be worth it depending on the time of day and destination in the city.
